Kohima, Jan. 31 (EMN): The two day long 56th wrestling meet of the Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) concluded here at the Kohima local ground on Wed. Jan. 31.
Mhaneikholie Kuotsu (Phesama) emerged as the champion in senior men’s freestyle wrestling (U-65 kg category), while Vikethozo Khriethanyu (Phesama) was the runners-up.
For senior men’s freestyle wrestling (U-57 kg category), Ngopisa Kuotso (Kidima) was adjudged as the winner and Vilazoto Ngukha (Mima) as the runners-up.
The winners received INR 5000 and INR 2000 for first and second position in senior men category while the winners for U-17 category received with INR 3000 and INR 2000 for the first and second position.
Kevithuto Sophie, NPS, AIG (Provisioning), PHQ gracing the valedictory function as the guest of honour called on the youth to preserve the culture and traditions to keep the identity.
While maintaining that indigenous sports are part of Naga culture and traditions, he lamented that culture and tradition were at the brink of losing its value and challenged the youth to come forward and revive the rich culture and traditions.
The new SASA executives were also elected for the tenure 2018-2020 with Ruokuovikho Chale as the president, Meyiesiil Thaprii as the general Secretary and Keneilel Rote as wrestling secretary.
The 18 wrestlers namely Visevo Zashümo (Phesama), Kekhrie Yhoshii (Kigwema), Kevime Vitsu (Viswema), Vitsoto Vitsu (Viswema), Kediseto Kiso (Kidima), Bode-o Zhasa (Kigwema), Sahovi John Phinyo (Kidima), Viphrezo Mejura (Phesama), Mezivil Kiso (Kidima), Tesovikho Thorie (Kigwema), Rokovolie Mejura (Phesama), Zadutol Phinyo (Kidima), Sweyiekhul Khatso (Jakhama), Khevizole Zutso (Kigwema), Kulto Toso (Viswema), Kezevikho Sakhrie-substitute (Viswema), Keyose Zecho -substitute (Kezo town) and Vikeduzo Tepa -substitute (Mima) were selected for the upcoming Angami wrestling meet.
