DIMAPUR — The Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) has condemned what it termed an act of aggression against the president of Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO), district administration officials and local residents, allegedly by the Maova village authority and its residents on February 13.
In a press release, the SAPO asserted that the incident, which reportedly involved physical assault and stone-pelting, was unacceptable and ran contrary to Naga cultural values and traditions of peaceful coexistence.
The organisation alleged that the CPO president was threatened and physically assaulted, while stones were pelted at officials of the district administration and members of the public, amounting to what it described as a direct confrontation with government agencies and civil bodies.

Expressing serious concern over the incident, the SAPO said that communities under Chakhroma jurisdiction have coexisted peacefully for generations and asserted that there were no grounds for insecurity.
It maintained that developmental activities undertaken in the area—whether through legal ownership or land purchase—have contributed significantly to the growth of Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Kohima districts.
It also conveyed its support for the stand taken by Angami Public Organisation (APO), commending its efforts to uphold peace and communal harmony.
It appealed to all communities to respect land ownership rights and resolve differences through dialogue rather than confrontation.
Stressing the need to preserve peaceful coexistence, the SAPO advocated constructive dialogue to address concerns arising from development activities and said it was willing to extend cooperation to ensure stability and harmony within Angami areas.
The organisation expressed hope that the incident would not be repeated and that an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding would prevail among all communities in the region.
