KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 24: Even after attaining 53 years of Statehood in addition to rich flora and fauna, landscape and natural resources bestowed upon the people, some parts of the State are yet to have road connectivity and educational institutions.
This concerned was shared by the Commissioner and Secretary of Municipal Affairs, Menükhol John, during the Southern Angami Gazetted Officers Krotho (SAGOK) silver jubilee celebration held on the theme ‘Introspect sustainability’ at Bamboo Hall, Kisama, today.
Speaking on the topic ‘Introspection’ as the resource person, John urged upon the members to sharpen their axe and work for the coming generation with renewed vigour.
Stating that the Southern Angamis have the collective wisdom inherited from the forefathers, he challenged SAGOK members to frame their own vision in order to forge ahead saying, ‘It is our responsibility to pass on the baton to our next generation.’
Engineer in Chief, Er. Khüpi Natso, speaking on the topic ‘Sustainability,’ shared his concern that even after 50 years of statehood we continue to live as a consumer State.
Pointing out that the state doesn’t have any sustainable programme except the Likimro Project, Natso said the people have given up their fields and lands looking for government jobs and subsidies from the government.
Emphasising on the importance of sustainability, Natso said the State can harness the rich sources of Dzükou water if the people of the area unanimously agree on it. ‘If at all we want to develop our area into one that is sustainable, we have to change our mindset and be ready to go back to nature,’ Natso said.
He also mentioned on the need to sensitise the people in the villages saying, ‘only then we can start of thinking sustainability.’ He also stressed on the importance of enforcement of the system and usage of the law of the land while striving to promote sustainability in our area.
Exhorting the gathering, MLA Er. Vikho-o Yhoshü said officers are looked upon by the people to be the think tank and trail blazers to show them the way and lead in progressive initiatives. He, therefore, stated it was incumbent of the officers to generate visionary ideas and ideals and even to moderate and temperate situations whenever required.
The officers present were also urged to think together with other organisations to plan, discuss and share so that right initiatives are taken up especially to break new grounds and help the people unlearn and re-learn in line with the change of time.
Noting that many gullible Nagas are being fooled and cheated on many occasions of the numerous centrally sponsored schemes and projects, MLA Er. Kropol Vitsu urged the learned members of the society to educate the people of the facts and information, lest he said the people will continue to lose resources and economy running after those fake schemes and projects.
The programme was chaired by the president, Nosazol Charles, while the invocation was said by Rokovilie Zashümo, pastor of Baptist Church, Phesama, and the general secretary, Shürhovol Neikha, delivered the secretary’s report.
SAGOK’s magazine was released by Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) president, Dr. Neiketou Kiso. The gathering was enthralled with a folk song presented by Vikehielie Chaya and friends.
Southern Angami Gazetted Officers Krotho (SAGOK), formed on April 28, 1991, has at present five hundred and twenty four (524) members.
