Sonowal reviews flash flood in Guwahati

Guwahati, June 22 (PTI): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today directed the Kamrup (Metro) district administration to immediately release ex-gratia amount of Rs 6.5 lakh to the next of kin of Dulal Malakar killed in flash flood induced electrocution here this morning. He directed that Rs 4 lakh be released under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) and another Rs 2.5 lakh from Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to the next of kin of the deceased, an official release said. PTI [/caption] The Chief Minister reviewed the flash flood situation in the city due to heavy rainfall this morning with officials of the district administration and power department. He asked them to take necessary steps to give suitable appointment to the victim's wife at APDCL. Sonowal directed to constitute a joint team of the district administration, Gauhati Municipal Corporation, Assam Police, SDRF and APDCL to check and identify all vulnerable points and carry out necessary rectification immediately, the release said. The Chief Minister told the team to submit a compliance report to him within seven days. Sonowal also directed to constitute local level committees to handle and respond to such situations instantly, the release added.
