Guwahati/New Delhi, August 6 (IANS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan and appealed him to set up a presidential retreat in the northeast.
Sonowal also invited Kovind to visit the state and the latter readily agreed, saying he is looking forward to visit the beautiful and scenic state of Assam and the northeast sometime in October-November.
“A presidential retreat in northeast besides the existing ones in North and South would symbolize the unity of the country besides signifying the unity of our diverse cultures and people of the country,” Sonowal said while referring to the existing Presidential Retreats which are located at Mashobra in Shimla and Bolarum in Hyderabad.
The President appreciated Sonowal for conceiving the idea and assured to look into the matter in right earnest.
