KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 18: Parliamentary Secretary of Planning & Coordination, Evaluation & Monitoring Cell and Taxes, Neiba Kronu, while maintaining that no society can progress and develop without human resource development, lamented that something had gone wrong somewhere with the education system in Nagaland.
Kronu said Nagaland government had spent more than Rs 900 crore last year for payment of salaries to employees of Education Department, whereas the performance of government schools in the State cannot be compared with private players. Kronu said this in his address while inaugurating the new building of Government Middle School (GMS) in Pfutsero town under Phek district on September 17.
The Parliamentary Secretary emphasised on the need to put a collective effort on human resource development to help build a pleasant and progressive society.
Meanwhile, Kronu informed that the proposal for establishment of Science College in Pfutsero has been approved by the State Level Education Committee but the process for establishment has been delayed due to dispute between landowners. He also said that a multipurpose hall in Pfutsero is on the verge of completion and added that once it is completed it will host all kinds of event and activities.
He also expressed his ambitious plan to transform Pfutsero town as it has the potential to become the next city of Nagaland. “We want to turn Pfutsero town into a world tourist attraction centre,” he said and sought the cooperation and active participation of the public to make it a reality. He said proper drainage and good sanitary system are required apart from good roads, financial institutions, healthcare etc.
He also informed that the process for adventure tourism activities have already been worked out and likely to be operational by next year.
Further, Kronu expressed deep concern over the deplorable road condition of NH-29 especially Kohima- Pfutsero- Jessami road. Kronu said he had apprised the Director General of Border Road Organisation (BRO) on the matter. He also recalled the memorandum submitted to the State Governor, PB Acharya, by the public during his recent visit to Pfutsero. He, therefore, called upon the people to join hands together and collectively pursue the matter saying the public will not remain as a silent spectator if the BRO continue to neglect the said road.
He said GMS Pfutsero town was established in 1945, which is one of the oldest schools in Pfutsero town with huge number of enrolment. He lauded the school authority and the teaching staff for their dedication and producing excellent results over the years.
“This school is one of the best performing schools in the state,” he said.
Earlier, the dedicatory prayer was proposed by Keduwepe Mero, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Pfutsero. The formal programme was chaired by Wemhie-ü Mero, while the invocation was pronounced by Rev. Dr. N Chiero, pastor of Pfutsero Town Baptist Church. GMS head teacher, Wepekha Wetsah, delivered welcome address. Special numbers were presented by students of GMS Pfutsero town and mothers’ group. Benediction was pronounced Kedoulhi Khape.
