- DIMAPUR — Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ), the apex youth
body of the Rengma community, in a letter to the chief medical officer,
Department of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, has made an urged for the
strengthening of the Community Health Centre (CHC) Tseminyu, which is currently
the only CHC serving the entire population of Tseminyu district.
- In the letter, the RSZ noted that it had officially adopted
CHC Tseminyu last year as part of its commitment to the welfare and health of
the community. Since then, it said, it has consistently extended cooperation to
ensure better services while also making repeated appeals to the concerned
authorities for improved staffing and infrastructure.
- However, the RSZ claimed it is deeply concerning that the
CHC continues to function under severe constraints. Currently, the hospital has
a senior medical officer (SMO), only one MBBS doctor (contractual), one
dentist, one Ayushman doctor, and six nurses.
- “With the onset of the challenging season, the patient load,
particularly from rural and interior areas, has already started to increase
substantially. The current strength of medical personnel is grossly inadequate
to meet the health demands of the citizens of the entire district,” it read.

- It was also mentioned that despite multiple representations
and appeals submitted to the department, the CHC has remained neglected to
date, with no concrete action taken to address the shortfall in medical
officers, nurses, or essential facilities.
- “This continued negligence is not only disheartening but
also poses a serious risk to the lives of the people in the district,” it said,
adding that the RSZ urges the office to take immediate and proactive steps to
allocate the required number of medical officers, nurses, and necessary medical
facilities to CHC Tseminyu.
- It maintained that failing to address this issue as a
priority will compel the Rengma Selo Zi to initiate democratic forms of
protest, which may lead to unavoidable and unhealthy situations.
