Imphal, May 8 (EMN): Two personnel of 165 Battalion Territorial Army were killed while two others sustained injuries in a bomb attack at Lokchao in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar on Monday,sources said.
The incident took place when two improvised explosive device which were believed to be planted earlier, exploded simultaneously when an army truck in which a road opening party of Territorial Army were returning to their Lokchao post about 85 km away from Imphal along the Imphal-Moreh highway around 5.30 am, sources said.
One personnel Arjun Baral of Koubru Leikha in Kangpokpi district was killed at the spot while another personnel Varesho Hungyo of Leishipung in Senapati district succumbed to the injuries. The injured persons identified as T Chandra of Churachandpur and Y Govind of Kakching was undergoing treatment at an army hospital in Manipur. Both the two deceased and injured personnel were all from Manipur, sources added. The front glass and body of the army truck were damaged during the explosion.
Soon after the incident a massive manhunt was conducted with the arrival of additional forces in and around the Lokchao area to arrest the attackers. However there is no report of any arrest till the report goes to the press. At the same time no armed groups operating in the state claimed responsibility for the incident till the report goes to the press. Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the incident. The vehicular movement along the Imphal-Moreh highway was also suspended till 10 in the morning in view of the day’s incident.
