Solar street lights launched in Jalukie town

Toyang Changkong Chang launching the Solar Street Light at Jalukie Town on March 25.[/caption] Dimapur, March 25 (EMN): Solar street lighting system in Jalukie town was launched on March 25 by the with Parliamentary Secretary of New and Renewable Energy and Fire & Emergency Services, Toyang Changkong Chang as the chief guest. Stating that global warming has changed our life style drastically, the chief guest exhorted that finding clean energy was the only substitute to evolve a proper life cycle. Stating that natural power of the sun, the wind and the water, which were permanent in nature and renewable, could be converted into a usable energy. He also stated that the Prime Minister of India has taken keen interest in evolving this renewable energy. He appreciated the people of Peren district for their generosity in donating land for any government programmes and projects. He added that, the topography and good soil are a blessing for the people. Stating that 70% of the State budget is spent on the salary of government employees, he said it will be difficult to absorb major chunk of the youth force unless industries were set up in the State. Calling upon the leaders gathered, he said our individualistic approach and benefits should give ways to society’s welfare, if we are to see the light of day. “Today our society seems to be fragmented because our visions were not widened. How big one strives for betterment of society, we will always perish, if we do not change ourselves and set our footing on positivity, understanding and co-existence,” he said. He added that the people of Peren district should appreciate the developmental activities undertaken by the former Chief Minister TR Zeliang. Deputy Secretary, Hiazu Meru, in his short speech, highlighted on the background on how the solar streets lighting project came about in Jalukie town. He appealed the public to make the best use of it and co-operate with the government for all such developmental programmes. Earlier, Deputy Director of NRE, Er. Inaho P Awomi highlighted on various achievement of the department including windmills and solar projects in the State since its inception in 2009-10. He stated that out of the eleven (11) districts, Peren district was privilege to be the first district to be getting the solar street lighting system in the phase-II including eight (8) villages out of which two (2) villages were motor able road. He also explained to the gathering as to why the phase-II solar lighting systems were costlier due to the introduction of the lithium ion battery. Former Deputy Chairman of Jalukie Town, Imtui Mpom, expressed his happiness and lauded the efforts of former CM for the project and also assured the officials that the citizens of Jalukie will co-operate with the department even in the days to come.
