Dimapur, December 13
A 100 KWp solar power plant has been instated in the secretariat of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat and Legislators Home complex. The solar plan was inaugurated by Speaker of Nagaland legislative Assembly Chotisuh Sazo on December 13 in a function held in Kohima to mark the inauguration. Commissioning the plant, the speaker said ‘humans along with plants and animals have always depended on solar energy for survival but the importance of solar energy was not realized till recently.’ Now humans can convert it to other useful energy, Sazo said.
According to Chotisuh Sazo, fossil fuels cause environment problems but solar energy is ‘clean energy due’ to its minimal impact on environment. He also mentioned that solar power plants require less maintenance and can provide ‘endless energy’. Advanced countries have set higher targets to tap solar and renewable energies in order to improve their economy and environment, he said.
Director of New and Renewable Energy, TS Angami also spoke. He said that the 100 KWp solar power plant was not only the biggest in Nagaland but also one of the biggest in North East India.
Earlier, he said, the assembly and the hostel consumed about 40 KW. ‘With the new installation, excess power will be generated,’ he said. He expressed regret that the power plant could not be completed in time due to “fund shortage.” So far 23 directorates have been installed with solar plants. He handed over the operation manual to the Secretary of NLA during the ceremony.
