The Survival Nagaland has expressed surprise over Chief Minister TR Zeliang’s statement relaxing the ILP from 15 days to six months at the consultative meet on NSDZ, NIB and NLTP Act held in Kohima on Friday.
In a release issued by its media cell today, Survival Nagaland said it will never remain a mute spectator when people in power make such “irresponsible decisions” putting the future generations at stake. The release said since the statehood and till date, different governments in power over the years have completely failed to implement the ILP even in the 10 districts, including the state capital Kohima. It attributed this as the main reason for influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
While maintaining that cheap labour is essential, the release said it should not be necessarily from outside. The SN stressed that our people should be encouraged to possess work culture and the dignity of labour.
“It is even with the ILP Act in effect, some corrupted administrative and police officials are more concerned for their pocket money and issue ILP randomly rather than caring for the future of our children and our land,” it stated, adding “With this inefficient system we are going to be in a mess which we will never be able to come out.”
Stating that the Assam and the Tripura scenario should be enough for our leaders if they are wise enough and if really care for the people, the SN said even in Dimapur which an ILP free zone, the Illegal Immigrants have now overtaken the local population. “So need we say more about this?” it asked.
It further said questions arise in the minds of present younger generation of Nagas whether our present leaders have more concern for their own people or outsiders.
The SN appealed to enforce more stringent rules and regulations for effective implementation of ILP rather than emphasizing on economic development like NSDZ which, it said, will completely destroy “your inherent rights”. It further urged all the Naga people to boycott such projects at the cost of the people in the name of economic development.
