Dimapur, September 14
The Survival Nagaland has expressed deep concern over an article of Elijah Chara, TISS, Mumbai published in a section of local dailies on September 11 under the caption “The secrets of ILP near Doyang bridge”.
SN condemned the practice of “moo mitha ke liye thoda toh dena parta hain” by police personnel manning the police check gate at Doyang bridge, Wokha.
A statement issued by SN said, “It is disheartening to learn that the law keepers are selling the future status of our land for a few tens or hundreds of money. It clearly shows that they are mostly concern for their benefit and comfort by turning a deaf ear against the much hype hues, cries and plea of the citizens. How can a responsible police personnel who is the guardian of the society take the law in his own hand by dealing so leniently with ILP defaulters, endangering the future lives of our land and its generation. It is really sad and disheartening to exclaim the harsh words of reality based on factual and action that there are hundreds of such corrupted police officer and personnel practicing such malpractices all over the state.”
Because of such corrupt practice, the SN said, there are lakhs of ILP defaulters living freely with ‘who cares’ attitude without fearing the ILP act enforced/implemented in Nagaland.
The lukewarm response of the Nagas toward ILP ACT tends the ILP defaulters, illegal immigrants to enhance more courage in committing crimes and also serve as an opportunity to corrupt the Nagas for their advantages and benefits, the statement said.“Today Nagaland is indeed blessed by the government of India with a special status under BEFRA to be protected under the ILP Act (except Dimapur which doesn’t fall under the Act) so as to protect and preserve the unique identity of the indigenous people of the state and their land yet the concern state govt. and its citizens cant materialize the power enacted upon us to the fullest as compared to the sorry state of affairs, where protects, agitation etc are carried out continuously by the citizens of Manipur in demanding the implementation of ILP Act in the state.”
SN demanded that the irregular police personnel be detected and exposed at the earliest to the public so that it can be served as an exemplary action for the rest of the lawman.
“Stringent punishment should be award with a stern warning even at the cost of their govt service.”
SN appealed to the government to eradicate all anomalies in the concerned department. “Loopholes should be detected and addressed, corrective measures and mechanism be adopted and implemented at the earliest at all levels.”
SN also demanded that ILP should be strictly enforced in all the districts of Nagaland with adequate forces and proper check gate setup in all critical places.
“Awareness program and seminar on ILP ACT should be conducted to educate the police personnel.”
SN said it will not rest until and unless Dimapur is brought under the purview of ILP zone and strongly warned that it would not tolerate any ill-practice of any individuals or officers.
