IMPHAL, NOVEMBER 27: Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani inaugurated the Apparel and Garment Making Centre at Lamboikhongnangkhong industrial site near Imphal on Sunday. The inaugural function was attended by Lok Sabha MP Dr. Th Meinya Singh, Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Principal Secretary of the state Commerce and Industries, L Lakher, and officers from the central government.
The chief guest also distributed “Pehchan” Identity Cards to some artisans. The Centre consists of one skilling block and two commercial blocks wherein around 300 machines were installed.
In her speech during the inaugural function, Smriti Irani said the scheme for identifying weavers was launched on October 7, 2014, adding more than 2000 weavers have been identified and issued identity cards.
The central government has sanctioned Rs 200 crores for the promotion of textile in the state. The state awardee will be given Rs 30,000 per month to train weavers.
