Mokokchung, March 4 (EMN): In a thrilling final match, Skylark CC defeated the new entrant A&K Cricket Fraternity by eight wickets and clinched the29th MDCA inter-club cricket tournament 2021 coveted title at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Thursday.
A&K Cricket Fraternity, having won the toss and electing to bat first, could muster only 120 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Nripen and Meyameren contributed 29 runs and 26 runs respectively. Asked to chase 121 to win the title, Skylark CC reached the target losing only two wickets in 16.3 overs.
Temjenmeren took two wickets while Aloto, Vijay Rai and Sanjay took one wicket each.
Chasing the target, Skylark got off to a flyer with the openers, Vijay Rai and Santosh giving a partnership of 96 runs. Santosh made 57 runs not out while Vijay Rai contributed 44 runs for Skylark. Jangzapong was the only bowler who accounted for both the wickets. Skylark CC with this win has lifted the MDCA trophy two times in the last three years.
Earlier, Moatoshi Tzudir, a contractor and NDPP member, was the special guest in the final match. He said through this event “we should aim to enhance self-discipline and self-confidence among the youths”.
He further encouraged the players that “winning or losing is not important but the happiness originated from participation in sport should highly be cherished because it pays you in terms of fitness and well-being”.
The tournament was hosted by Titans Club under the aegis of Mokokchung District Cricket Association.
