Dimapur, Sept. 1 (EMN): An intensive one-week Skill Training of Rural Youth (Stry) programme on “Soil conservation” was organised by KVK, Mon, in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (Manage), Hyderabad, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, in its premises from August 23 to 29.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Manoj Singh Sachan, ACTO (GPB) and Imtinuksung, SMS (Soil Conservation), briefed about STRY training programme, stated Imtinuksung, course director, KVK, Mon, in an update.
During the week-long training programme, resource person Imtinuksung, SMS (Soil Conservation), delivered lecture and made power point presentation on various topics like conservation, tillage practices, mulching, green manuring, crop rotation, terracing, half moon terracing, contour bunding and strip cropping. Besides, hands on demonstration on bamboo bunding, laying out of contour lining by using A-frame method and mulching by using weed substrate as measures to control soil erosion were imparted.
It stated that participants were also shown videos on soil conservation measures like mulching, contour bunding, strip cropping and conservation tillage practices.
The valedictory function was chaired by Imtinuksung, while the welcome speech was delivered by Kevi Medom, TO (Computer), followed by summarisation of the week-long programme by the course director.
Hito Sema, ADC Aboi and the chief guest of the valedictory programme, encouraged the participants to become progressive farmers by focusing on commercial farming practices to generate additional income. He also advised them to produce organic crops which have health benefits and higher market price gain.
The programme concluded with distribution of certificates and word of thanks was delivered by Myingthungo Murry, TO (Farm). Altogether, 15 rural youth have participated in the programme.
