Dimapur, Nov. 5 (EMN): A training programme in skill and capacity for unemployed youth was inaugurated at the Don Bosco Tech AIDA Centre on Nov. 4. The training was for the programme’s 23rd batch, a press release informed on Sunday.
Rev. L. Lima, associate pastor of the Dimapur Ao Baptist Church, attended the occasion as the chief guest.
Regina Pamma Karai, coordinator at Don Bosco Tech AIDA Centre, appended the press release.
Addressing the gathering, Rev. Lima said ‘It is a very good initiative by Don Bosco Tech to provide skill training to dropouts, offering such courses. Hospitality, food and beverage service and hospitality, beauty and wellness are in high demand even in our own home. It is praiseworthy that the youths can become employable.’ He asked the trainees to “set smart goals.”
“Whether you are a matriculate or PUC passed it is important to get trained in a specific field. That will help you to start your own business tomorrow,” the press release quoted him as having stated.
State coordinator (operations) Amos Ekka also spoke at the programme. The speaker said that “Today Don Bosco Society works for the development and education of the young especially those most at risk.” Through its schools, colleges, universities, technical schools and youth centres and many more interventions in 132 countries, the Salesians of Don Bosco serve all young people irrespective of religious differences or social inequalities.”
Ekka highlighted what the press release called ‘unique selling propositions’ of Don Bosco Tech such as “regular assessment of trainees through weekly tests and monthly assessment, parent meetings, eight-hour trainings daily for six-days a week, training in basic computing, communicative English and soft skills besides the domain training involving practical and theoretical input along with industrial visits and guest lectures.”
Trainees are assessed and certified by an external assessment agency at the end of the training, it was informed. He told the gathering that “at least 12 past trainees of AIDA centre are working overseas and some of them earn over Rs. 1 lakh per month.”
Training is imparted in domains such as hospitality in food and beverage service and hospitality – in beauty and wellness, the updates informed.
