St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Chumukedima, had organized its 18th Annual Games and Sports Meet on March 15.
Deputy Director of Agriculture, Kohima, N Jacob Yanthan, who graced the inaugural function as the chief guest, said sports and games plays a primarily positive role in the youth development including academic achievements. He encouraged the students to take part in various events not just for winning but with the desire to make sports and games as an integral part of their life which could one day lead them to glory.
“Many studies focus in five C’s namely Competence, Confidence, Connection, Character and Caring which are very critical components of positive youth development,” said Yanthan.
He further spoke about the way of living of health conscious which automatically enhances discipline, learning, teamwork, leadership and self control.
In the context of his experienced, he said sports and games in Nagaland are limited only to certain levels due to negligence and lack of sponsorship besides having many talented sportsmen.
He encouraged the students to uphold their commitment, dedication, discipline, hardworking, devotion and positive attitude towards sports and games to achieve true success in life.
In conclusion, he said “If one can overcome all those negative benchmarks that are responsible for creating unfriendly atmosphere, he/she will certainly attain the true color of success in life”.
The welcome address was delivered by Rev. Fr Sajan, Principal SJHSS, and lighting of sports lamp by Rev. Fr Mathew, Director of Shalom Rehabilitation Centre, Chumukedima.
Cultural dance and march past by four house of the school enthralled the audience and students as well. The function concluded with vote thanks by Sr. David Headmistress SJHSS.
