Dimapur, Jan. 24 (EMN): St. John College (SJC), Dimapur on Monday observed International Day of Education on the theme, “Changing course, Transforming Education”.
An update from the institution informed that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) remembers Jan. 24 as International Day of Education to highlight the importance of education, as adopted by the UN Assembly in 2018 in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
According to the UN world records, 258 million children and youth still do not attend school, while 617 million children and adolescents cannot read or do basic mathematics. The right to education is enshrined in article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is the right of every child to receive basic education. This year the UN has selected the theme “Changing Course, Transforming Education”, it said.
The teachers and students of the Education department signed a pledge among various departments to as a fundamental right to educate children in a sustainable future to transform Education. Various departments joined the initiative to impart quality education to students through various activities related to real-life situations, increase research activities to transform education, give skill-based education to students,work for the holistic development of students and increase analytical thinking which will lead towards authenticity in learning, it read.
It added that the Education department also planned a series of lectures to highlight various factors to transform education and make it meaningful in Nagaland.
