IMPHAL —Manipur police on February 14 arrested six persons in connection with the incident of arms looting case at 5th Indian Reserve Battalion, Chingarel, in Imphal East district.
Informing this in a press note, Police control room informed that six persons have been arrested on February 14 in connection with the incident of arms looting case. It may be mentioned here that an unruly mob stormed the camp of 5th IRB at Chingarel, Imphal East, and decamped with arms and ammunitions on February 13.
Report stated that the arrested persons have been remanded into police custody by judicial magistrate. It added that four Insas Rifles, one AK Ghatak, two magazines of SLR and 16 small boxes of 9 ammunitions have also been recovered.
On February 13 night, a 24-year-old youth was killed while three others sustained injury in a firing by central forces when an angry mob tried to storm Manipur Police Training College, Pangei in Imphal East district.
Tension has been running high in the vulnerable areas since the firing started on Sunday night at Pukhao Shantipur area (Imphal East district) and adjoining areas of Khamenlok hill range in Kangpokpi district. There are also reports of firing by armed miscreants towards the Sugnu village in Kakching district.
