Imphal, Jan. 14 (EMN): Manipur on Friday detected six new Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, taking the total number of such cases in the state to seven, according to a press release issued by the Directorate of Health Services.
The update also informed that all the patients had completed their mandatory isolation period and had been discharged after their RT PCR test report returned negative.
While stating that tracing of close contacts and containment measures were already in place, it said cross notifications have been issued. It also advised the general public to strictly follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated for Covid-19.
“Please be alert and do not panic,” it stated.
The state detected its first Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 on December 27 last year, while its first Covid-19 positive case was reported on March 24, 2020 and first Covid death reported on July 29 in the same year.
After attending a virtual meeting of Chief Ministers with Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid the third wave of the pandemic sparked by the Omicon variant, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday appealed to the public to join the vaccination exercise wholeheartedly to protect themselves from the virus.
In a video message, he also urged the local clubs to extend their co-operation in the fight against the pandemic while assuring adequate supply of vaccines, medicines and other requirements.
Meanwhile, Manipur on Friday reported 116 new Covid-19 positive cases from 1,643 samples tested, officials said. This pushed the state’s Covid tally to 1,26,821 and active caseload to 944.
A total of 14,87,596 persons have been tested for Covid-19 at the various testing centres in the state so far, according to a press release.
It was informed that the state’s Covid death toll remained unchanged at 2,012 with no fresh fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.
The state also registered 29 new recoveries, including 17 from home isolation, in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative recoveries to 1,23,865.
Currently, as many as 259 Covid-19 positive cases are undergoing home isolation.
As per latest official report, the state has so far administered 23,77,616 doses of Covid vaccines, including 13,56,905 first dose and 10,16,486 second doses.
