Six colony councils under Ward 20 in Dimapur petition the DC against forming an alleged unauthorised business forum ‘Business Owners Forum’.
DIMAPUR — Six colony councils and GBs under Ward No. 20 in Dimapur have submitted a representation to the deputy commissioner of Dimapur opposing the reported attempt to form an unauthorised trade organisation titled "Business Owners Forum, Nagarjan".
The representation was submitted by the Joint Colony Forum representing United Colony, Imkonglenden Colony, Ura Villa Colony, Circuit House Colony, SM Colony, and Vilhume Colony.
According to the forum, certain individuals have circulated notices attempting to establish the organisation within United Colony without the knowledge, consultation, consent, or approval of the United Colony Council, the six colony councils under the ward, or competent authorities.
The forum stated that the United Colony Council met with the individuals concerned on August 26 and informed them of resolutions adopted by the councils and general body, which prohibit the formation of new business bodies or unions within the locality without collective consent.
Subsequently, a meeting with shop owners, business proprietors, and landlords was convened on August 30, where participants unanimously resolved not to join or support any newly proposed business forum. The United Colony Council had also issued a press release on September 9 outlining this position.
Despite these decisions, the forum noted that the group continued efforts to form the body and issued statements on September 10 describing council decisions as wrong. The councils pointed out that such activities could generate misunderstanding, tension, and division among residents, traders, and recognised local bodies.
Following this, a combined meeting of council members and GBs of all six colonies was convened on September 11, where it was reaffirmed that no colony within Ward No. 20 would recognise or permit any new business organisation without prior approval from competent authorities and the collective consent of all six councils.
An emergency meeting was further held on September 13 at Hotel Saramati under the chairmanship of Ward No. 20 Councillor Lanuchuba Imchen, where elders, council members, and GBs resolved that no business body would be permitted to function without prior approval from the respective colony councils.
The forum expressed concern over an increasing tendency to establish parallel organisations without accountability, noting that such bodies create confusion and disruption in local administration.
Pointing out that established mechanisms already exist in coordination with the district administration and police to resolve local business and welfare concerns, the forum requested administrative intervention to ensure that no unauthorised organisation is allowed to function within Ward No. 20.
