Dimapur, April 15 (EMN): The debutant Sivasagar Volleyball Club from Assam lifted the 7th edition of A Sopen Konyak Memorial men’s open volleyball championship 2023 held at Tobu village.
The championship was held from April 12 to the 14th and organised by Deu-Yong Club.
The champion and the runner-up, Cousin’s United Tuensang, received a cash prize of INR 50000 and INR 30000 respectively, along with trophies and certificate.
In the individual category, the player of the tournament was awarded to Chiba Yemba of Cousin’s United Tuensang. Tenjak Jamir of Sivasagar Volleyball Club was adjudged the best player and Moa Chang of Cousin’s United was named as the best setter.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]The two losing semi-finalist teams of the tournament, Hukpang Students’ Union, Longleng and Seven Eleven Club, Longleng walked away with a cash of INR 10000 each.
The opening and closing ceremony of the tournament was attended by Naiba Konyak, MLA 55 A/C Tobu as special guest and Pongsu Chang, President, Chang Wedoshi Setshang as special invitee. All together, 17 teams from four districts of Nagaland and a lone team from Assam had participated in the tournament. Out of which, five teams from Longleng, five teams from Mon, five teams from Tuensang, one team each from Noklak and Sivasagar district of Assam.
