DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 3 : In the aftermath of the armed confrontation between the banned outfit NSCN (K) and a convoy of the 5th Assam Rifles at Tillomi bridge near Ghuvishe village of Aghunato sub-division in Zunheboto on Friday evening, situation in the area was reported to be ‘normal’ today.
Security forces that were sent in as reinforcement after the reported ambush on the convoy by NSCN (K) members have vacated the area at around 1:00 am on Saturday, according to the extra additional commissioner of Aghunato, Berimong Chang.
Chang informed that there were “no reports of harassment” of the public by security forces after the latter deserted the area early Saturday morning. The official also informed that there were no casualties from the ambush on Friday evening. He confirmed that four Assam Rifles personnel were injured, out of which three sustained minor wounds.
According to Chang, residents of surrounding villages have planned to undertake a public rally on Sunday to register their protest at the episode.
