O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart and be saved. How long will you harbor wicked thoughts. Jeremiah 4:14
The city of Jerusalem has a history of sin, violence and as the nature of her offences are she has suffered much at the hands of her enemies. It was in this place Christ was born and it was ij this city Christ was crucified. This scripture was written before Christ came and as the nature of the verse is, it is a sign of chastening. The Jerusalem refereed to here is the city which is in Israel and to us who are God’s chosen people. The sins committed by the Israelite were many and so are ours. None can ever deny to have not sinned and as the scripture speaks to us, we are convicted of the evils of the past and the number of times we went astray.
The sins of this great city were so high that invaders came against her and the outcry of her deliverance could only come when Christ came into this world. Though the Israelites sinned and we sinned , the Jerusalem which is above can never sin and will never sin. The truth is Jerusalem lives in us and we in Jerusalem. And the reason of the Church’s existence is also to purify all of God’s people, perfecting them in the ways of God. The truths of it are not to condemn but to save and it is only by the Holy Spirit that the waves of repentance and brokenness can be experienced. The guilt of sin comes when evils are committed but it is never expected of God’s people to continue in sin. The ones who are of the truth must know it better than the others and it shall go well with everyone to shun evil and to pursue righteousness. The city of God is reserved only for God’s people and it is a place which is reserved for everyone who loves the truth. This city is our desire and our prayer is for God to grant salvation to all whom we love and care for. The truth is our desire.
