
Under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme 2018, the Wokha District Administration in collaboration with the Youth Department of Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC) organised a singing competition for female artists on Dec. 6 at the Town Hall in Wokha. This was mentioned in an DIPR update issued on Dec. 9.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Dr.Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS while addressing the programme is said to have stated that the BBBP is a flagship programme of the Government of India and that the main objective is to promote the cause of the girl child on educating her, promoting her and to provide equal opportunity in the society.
A series of programmes is said to have been undertaken within the district towards women empowerment by providing trainings, especially girls who are out of schools or those girls who have passed out through trainings like weaving, knitting, paper bag making and pickle making. And to ensure that they get good returns with the help of the Wokha Town Council a shop have also been identified for them so that they can sell BBBP products and earn returns for the efforts they have put in, the update informed.
Altogether 18 female artists are said to have taken part in the competition.
Sochumlo Kikon was bagged as the winner while Thungroni Ngullie and Benchilo Enny were awarded the second runners-up and third runners-up respectively. The winners were given cash award and certificates. All the participants were also given cash incentives.
BBBP 2018 Wokha Theme song and video clipping which was said to have been prepared and composed by Khyopen and sung by Kumali Vontsso was officially launched by the DC.
