Dimapur, November 24: While the concept of old age home is not new to other states across the country, the very concept is relatively new for a State like Nagaland especially Nagas being traditional in our approach with senior citizens continue to be taken care of by families despite challenges.
Due to the changing times and works, many of the aged people are left at home while their children migrate to urban areas with their works commitment. The founder of Silver Lining Society, Champila Sangtam Jamir, said the idea of old age home came first into her mind in 2009 when she visited the Kohima Old Age Home as part of a society she was involved in then. She, however, said her dream was neglected with her getting involved in various other engagements.
It was after she got married that she revived her dream together with her husband, Moatemsu Jamir, shared Champila to Eastern Mirror. Jamir recalled they came up with the initiative of having an old age home in Dimapur as people migrate to Dimapur town in search of greener pastures leaving their old parents back home. By giving home to the senior citizens, it will benefit both which in turn will be a noble job for the good of the society.
The Silver Lining Society staged a charity show in aid of construction of an old age home in Dimapur on November 24 at IMC Hall, Dimapur. With most of the shows staged to garner profits, Jamir cleared that this venture was not for commercial purpose but to help those in need and provide a friendly environment.
He also remarked that the concept of Old Age Home was not popular in the State and among the people. Many NGOs do not give attention to this idea and the need for such homes is not thought of as people are not confident to run an Old Age Home, he added. But he hoped that through their venture, people and the government will ponder on this concern and follow suit with a change for good of our society.
The free entry charity show by Silver Lining Society had host of artistes in various fields who voluntarily participated for the event with Benthungo Kithan, fashion designer and entrepreneur as the special guest.
Champila and Moatemsu Jamir duo, who embarked on the theme “To redeem” hopes to complete their project in three years and extend a helping hand to those people in need of assistance.
