ESA Warriors beat Komates CC by 178 runs

Kohima, March 26 (EMN): The 9th edition of Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament organised by Youth Department of Nepali Baptist Church Kohima got underway at Jakhama local gound on March 26 with the theme “Peace and unity through cricket”.
While ESA Warrior defeated Komates CC by 178 runs in the second match. In the match, ESA warrior electing to bat first scored a mammoth target of 256 runs riding on two half-centuries by Sidhart Doshi 64 runs and Hem 58 runs, while Akangy took two wickets for Komates CC.
In the run chase, Komates were all bowled out for just 78 runs with Timothy contributing the highest with 26 runs. Hanilong took three wickets for Warrior.
Sidhart Doshi of ESA Warrior was adjudged as the man of the match for scoring 64 runs in 43 balls.
Earlier in the first match, SilverBacks got a walkover after the defending champion Whiskers Cricket Club, Dimapur failed to turn up in time for the opening match.
Earlier Atha C Angami, president of Kohima District Cricket Association inaugurating the tournament said cricket is a lucrative sport and mentioned that there are so many people following it and there was enormous opportunity in cricket for hard-working players.
The president maintained that the players need to have four things in order to get recognition and to achieve their goals i.e hard working and practice, physical fitness, determination, and dedication.
While suggesting the players to work hard, he said that in Ranji trophy, the first eleven players for each state earns about 1.6 lakh in a match, and said the player would earn more than 20 lakh in a year.
Angami while stating that there were too many competition in cricket, he asked the players to expertise in at least two field’s i.e batting, bowling and fielding to be a successful player
The organisers informed that the players under Kohima district in the tournament who are under-23 will also be selected for U-23 selection trials to be held in Dimapur to represent Nagaland for BCCI matches.
16 teams are competing in the 9th edition namely defending champion Whiskers Cricket Club, Komates CC, Esa Warriors, Bokajan CC, Kats XI, Valour CC, Silver Whites, Shillong Marvericks, Diphu XI, Royal Tournaquets, Kingz CC, Midland Brotherhood, Kohima Hornbills, NBC, Kohima. The tournament is playing on knock out basis and goes on till April 4, 2018.
