Dimapur, July 20 (EMN): In the first semi-final match played between Sikkim XI and Manipur XI on Saturday, Kipgen of Manipur scored the first goal in the 33rd minute. Sikkim fought back with Laxmi scoring in the 73rd minute to level the score. With the match ending in a 1-1 draw after the stipulated time, Laxmi from Sikkim scored the golden goal in extra time paving a way for her team into the finals.
In the second semi-final played between Mizoram XI and Assam XI, Luangi from Mizoram scored a goal in the 7th minute. Assam however came back strongly scoring back to back goals in the 33rd and 35th minutes. But Mizoram XI with better coordination and attack scored two more goals in the 49th and 73rd minute to make it 3-2 and book a place in the finals.
Sikkim XI will take on Mizoram XI in the final match at the IG stadium in Kohima on Sunday, July 21 at 2.30 pm.
Earlier the governor of Nagaland, Acharya extended an invitation to the players, support staff and officers of IGAR (N) over to Raj Bhavan on July 20. The governor encouraged the budding players to utilise the medium of sports for overall growth and for furthering the spirit of integration. He also lauded the initiative of the Assam Rifles for organising the first of its kind tournament for young girl footballers from the Northeast.
