Dimapur, August 10
NPF President Shürhozelie Liezietsu said, when the Peace Accord was signed on August 3 in New Delhi by the representatives of the government of India and NSCN(I-M), it was taken as the beginning of the process for a political settlement.
“They called it ‘signing of the preamble’. If that is truly the beginning, can anybody tell the conclusion of the matter at this stage? We trust that there is no hidden agenda and I stand for correction if there is any,” Liezietsu said in a statement issued today.
He said, it is premature to say about thing which is yet to come, something which cannot be fathomed what will it turn out to be. He said, Naga people on simply hearing the signing of the ‘peace accord’, many have become critical, some have become emotional and some have become scared without knowing what is going to happen, some have taken it as a bad dream while many others talk their imaginations.
“Do we project the Naga character in this manner to the outside world ?”
He said, for those who have real concern for the future of the Naga people, this is the time to have serious consultation with one another calmly and quietly.
“Positive attitude can do a lot at this juncture to create better understanding among the people. Nagas are now passing through a very sensitive and crucial period of time in which our future depends on how we play our role today.”
“We believe that whoever is doing the round for a political settlement, they must have been doing their best to protect the best interest of the people to the extent possible while hammering out the points for solution because we are fully convinced that piecemeal solution is not possible and any proposal for solution which is not acceptable to the majority of the Naga people cannot be imposed too.”.
Liezietsu asserted, it is the time to do away with theoretical arguments and to stand on ground realities and contribute if there is something to offer.
“The rest of the talking points depend on the progress of the talk including opposition to the Accord by Congress President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and the chief ministers of the three neighbouring States,” he added.
