Kohima, Oct. 24 (EMN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency on Tuesday held a coordination meeting with party president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Liezietsu said Nagaland today has an unconstitutional government without mandate and authority which was ‘imposed by force’, but he expressed confidence that the time will come when the activities of this government will be brought under investigation. Terming it a ‘partyless government’ as it consisted of members who were expelled and suspended, he said the party has been facing an onslaught from this party less government in many ways. However, he said he believed that the party has overcome its hurdles and that it is only a matter of formalities that remains to be completed.
“For us, we have a party and today we are more or less in the opposition position under the partyless government, but we are proud that our party people stood firm. We will march ahead with a renewed vigour,” Liezietsu stated.
He also remarked that Nagaland was marred with crisis during the last four years, during the time of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. What we need most today is a political education, to be well-versed in the history of Naga political issue and how the formation of the NPF party is related to the issue, he said, while also pointing out that a new breed of politicians is the need of the hour, particularly from the younger generation, who can be committed and stand firm on principles.
He also told party workers that with the present crisis, it was a relief that majority of corrupted leaders have left the party, presenting the opportunity for the NPF to make a new beginning.
Meanwhile, lauding the party workers of Kohima town constituency for remaining steadfast even when their representative Dr. Neikiesalie Kire decided to join the rival group, the party president encouraged them to continue with their commitment and uphold the party’s constitution and its principles. Kohima being the capital town is the miniature of the state and what happens in the capital and what is achieved in it will have impact all over the state, he said. He called upon all the leaders of the unit to understand the importance of the road they have been placed for strengthening of the party and identify ideal candidate to represent the constituency in the forthcoming elections.
Also talking about the indefinite sit-in protest being organized by NPF central youth wing outside the Civil Secretariat, Liezietsu said the NLA speaker had written to him on Oct.23 evening requesting the party to call off the protest without taking any action to the points that have been raised. He however stated that the peaceful dharna will continue till justice was delivered and he informed the unit members to go and support the youth wing.
MP Rajya Sabha and NPF secretary general, KG Kenye, in his address, emphasized that trust is the essence of any organization. He also congratulated the gathering for having stood firm during the party crisis and pointed out that they have stood for the interest of the Nagas. “We are the true custodians of the NPF party,” Kenye said. Stating that no other political party has the word ‘Naga’ in its nomenclature, the MP asserted that it is only the NPF that truly stands for the interest of the Nagas and also for a peaceful settlement to the protracted Naga political issue, and further urged upon all the party members to promote the good tenets that the Nagas were known for.
NPF Kohima division president Goneiu Sirie and CEC member Neibulie Kiewhuo also delivered brief speeches. Earlier, 9 Kohima town AC advisor LhokisheAwomi pronounced the invocation prayer.
