Dimapur, Feb. 10 (EMN): ADC of Jalukie Dr. Tinojongshi Chang on Monday called upon the Naga youths to shoulder the responsibility of taking their culture forward for posterity. He also requested them not to feel shy about their culture but rather be proud of it.
The ADC was speaking during the District Youth Convention conducted by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Peren on February 8 at Women Welfare Community Hall, where he was the special guest, informed an update from DYC I/C, NYK Peren.
The programme was said to be attended by 100 youths from various youth clubs.
Chang lamented Naga youths giving “so much of importance to western dresses and culture”; excelled in it but lag behind others in terms of education and economy. He said that “we ought to give utmost importance to education” and economic development.
While stating that people should concentrate on ‘income-generating activities’ as all students will not get government jobs, he appreciated young girls from Jalukie and Peren towns for taking up entrepreneurship. He also asked the youths to take due advantage of the opportunities provided by governments and non-governmental organisations.
The update went on to say that DYC, NYK, Peren in-charge John Makhabo informed in his keynote address that ‘NYKS is the biggest grassroots level movement in Asia Pacific region with 1.5 lakh youth clubs affiliated to it’. Stating that NYK focuses on capacity-building of the youth at large, he asked the youth to take up entrepreneurship and provide jobs to other youths.
While mentioning that Jalukie belt is very viable for fishery projects, Makhabo said it cannot meet the demand of the state even if it ‘produces a truckload of fish every day’. He called upon the youth to take up economic- enhancing activities.
On the occasion, Chang also gave away cash prizes to the winning cultural teams and sports equipments to youth clubs (applicants).
