THE Culture Club Khensa celebrated its silver jubilee today at Yimrong Tenem, Khensa Village with Dr Watijungshi Jamir, Principal, Pfutsero Government College, Phek as the chief guest and Rev P Longri Longchar as the main speaker.
The chief guest, in his speech called upon the Culture Club Khensa (CCK) and the gathering to look back to last 25 years, retrospect the vision of the CCK, and evaluate the contributions that everyone is making towards promotion of culture. He said that in the present days many research studies are being conducted to identify and understand more about one’s culture. He encouraged the gathering to do researches and produce a book on the roots of the culture of Khensa village.
Speaking on the theme of the CCK Silver Jubilee celebration, “preservation and promotion of culture,” Rev P Longri Longchar brought in the definition of culture and the changes it has undergone with the passage of time. He said that with the arrival of Christianity, our culture has become more refined and only the faith that we believe in can sanctify our culture. “Therefore, it is for us to determine whether outside influences and forces should characterize our culture or let Christian faith become the foundation and driving force for any culture.”
Expressing great regret, the Reverend pointed out some for the negative changes that the young generations are adapting, such as turning down the pursuit of education, staying in the past beliefs without letting the right knowledge and progress of faith to take the lead, misusing church buildings and decision-making platforms and division amongst different zones in the same village.
Towards “preservation and promotion of culture,” the Reverend suggested that there should be a book recording the history of the village, design master plans for development of the village infrastructures and even set up standardized rules and regulations for the government and landowners for smooth execution of any developmental activities. He stated that if we seek revival and progress of culture without the right knowledge, there is danger of going back instead of moving forward. He encouraged the younger generation to raise their voice and work hard to usher in a new positive change in the society.
The CCK jubilee souvenir book was released by Rev C Teyong Kichu. Dr. Imlirenla Walling chaired the programme with invocation by Rev A Bendangwapang Longchar, exhortation by Khensa Village Council chairman, short speeches by Khensa Baptist Church pastor Rev K Temjen Longchar and Mekuli Village Council chairman, vote of thanks by CCK Silver Jubilee planning convener Temsuchizung and benediction by Aodangba, deacon MTBA.
