Diphu, Jan. 14 (EMN): Noble intentions and sincere efforts are a quality of the strong. A blind lady in Diphu in Assam who has lost her eyesight imparts free education to destitute school children at her residence at Sitlabari.
Nibedita Ghosh, 34, told the Eastern Mirror that she has given free education to 12 destitute school students of the classes three to 10. Her residence is a ‘school’ for them. She is also part of a nongovernmental organisation called Shopnolok Bidya Niketan, which has seven members. The NGO was established in 2014. She is the general secretary of the organisation.
Ghosh hails from a family of humble holdings. She has her mother and a younger sister. She did her schooling from Bengali Medium School in Diphu and completed matriculation in 2005. She then graduated from Diphu Government College in arts with political science as major subject in 2004. Due to financial problems she could not go for future studies.
In 1999, Ghosh lost her left eyesight. In search of a job she went to Dimapur in 2006 and worked at a company called Aqua. It was while staying there a vacancy in Faith Hospital was advertised to which she applied and was selected for the Job. She left her job at Faith hospital after six months and returned to Diphu in July 2007 due to problems with her eye. She could not avail treatment due to financial problems. Her doctors had asked her to go to Kolkata, and Nepal for Ophthalmology, Ghosh said. In 2007, Ghosh said, she lost her right eyesight too.
There are spots of happiness in her life though. She said that one of her students succeeded in securing a position in the 1st division in 2015. The student’s parents were alcoholics and were poor, it was informed.
Ghosh teaches her students by ‘hearing and listening.’ She mainly teaches English. Apart from giving free education, she and her organisation engage in charity work for the welfare of people living in the slums. She has appealed to the people to contribute in any form, including clothes, to the NGO. One may contact +91 75780-22254 (Nibedita Ghosh) for distributing clothes to destitute children.
