Dimapur, Feb. 16 (EMN): The Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya called on students of various colleges from Kohima to share their knowledge to help and develop the society. The governor was addressing a meeting and get together with college students from Kohima at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Feb. 16. A press release from the PRO to the Governor on Fri. informed about the event.
Stating that the youth had the choice to do and undo what they wanted for their future and Nagaland, Acharya advised the students not to be self-centered but share their knowledge for the welfare and development of the society.
The government sector has reached a saturation point and it was not possible to recruit every educated youth of the state, stating this he encouraged the students to take up entrepreneurship.
Various welfare schemes have been made available by the Central Government to help entrepreneurs establish, he informed.
Acharya suggested that colleges should implement skill development programmes. He said that the Nagaland University and the 66 colleges affiliated under the university should focus and identify necessary skill requirements in the state and should introduce the programmes accordingly.
The goal of the educational institutions should not only be to impart knowledge but to also make the students stand on their feet, he added.
The Governor further requested NU to implement the skill development programmes at the earliest in all colleges.
Principal secretary to governor, Piyush Goyal said Acharya being an educationist was keen to strengthen the education system in the state as it empowers the individual and the society.
The main purpose of the interaction session was to inform about the constrains faced with regard to infrastructure facilities, mode of teaching and other welfare activities for both the faculty and student community, he said.
Vice Chancellor Nagaland University Prof. Pardeshi Lal said that NU is offering various courses in different disciplines in the university and at the college levels and has announced to mandatorily introduce skill development programmes in all colleges . The VC however opined that the colleges should also implement practical classes along with theory with regard to the skill development programmes.
The vice chancellor also mentioned that with the introduction of ‘Swayam’ and ‘Swayamprabha’ programmes, students could choose more skill based courses.
Kohima Science College has informed that under ‘Swayam,’ the institution has identified 30 courses and will be starting it from the new academic session. Japfu Christian College stated that the college has introduced piggery and bee keeping amongst other programmes which have been beneficial to the students. Oriental College informed that the institution was implementing skill development training to the students and will be introducing skill development programmes in the next academic session.
