Dimapur, March 21
Leaders of the myriad colonies in urban Dimapur have been asked to be a part of the Dimapur Municipal Council’s several initiatives top ‘develop’ Dimapur. The leaders were told by the chief administrator of the implementation agency to be a stakeholder in the development of the commercial district of Nagaland.
The third general meeting of the Dimapur Union Councils’ Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) was conducted on Saturday in the Duncan Community Hall of Dimapur town. Administrator of Dimapur Municipal Council Atokhe Aye was the special guest of the event. Speaking in the midst of about 71 colony chairmen, Atokhe Aye said that every colony chairman should maintain proper records of all the residents in his colony as well as ensuring proper ‘check and balance’ in administration. That approach will expedite work associated with the government, administration, and law enforcing agencies, the administrator stated.
Stating ‘sanitation’ as the ‘face’ of the Dimapur Municipal Council, Aye said that the society needs to develop civic sense when it comes to sanitation especially in regard to solid waste management. The DMC has been cleaning the drainages in and around the market areas in the town for the past 20 days. More than 15 houses have been identified as the defaulters for it, he said. Aye added that if all the colonies under DUCCF worked together, Dimapur would ‘become a better and cleaner place to live in.’
During the meeting, the DMC administrator also appealed to all the colony chairmen to give importance to the resident sanitation Tax (RST) of Rs. 10 per household for the municipal agency. This is to provide ‘better assistance and corporation’ to the people of Dimapur, he explained.
Admitting to ‘various shortcomings’ of the municipal council, Aye said that a shortage of machinery and manpower were one of the reasons behind the ‘shortcomings.’ He said that the department will soon formulate policies and program in regard to sanitation and solid waste management which will benefit the society.
The general report was presented by Secretary DUCCF while the audit report was presented by Audit convener of the DUCCF. 71 colonies are affiliated with the DUCCF.
A member of the DUCCF Renathung Ezung conveyed a brief note of appreciation to the DMC led by Atokhe Aye. He said that the urban villages unlike rural villages, were not privileged with specific schemes of civic amenities but with the DMC, Dimapur can experience various developmental changes with the income generated by the council.
