The annual Assam Rifles Inter Sector Debate Competition on Human Rights was organised at Assam Rifles Training Centre & School, Dimapur for two days from June 20 wherein 13 teams of Assam Rifles Sectors and ARTC&S participated. Brigadier K Narayanan, Commandant ARTC& School was the chief guest on the occasion. The topic for the debate was “Security forces are ineffective without respect for Human Rights.” A total of 52 speakers debated on the topic in Hindi and English, 26 speakers each For and Against the motion. The main aim of this debate was to sensitize the troops about Human Rights and importance of their strict observance while dealing with the public.
Rifleman Narendra of 23 Sector Assam Rifles and Recruit Samsad Ansari of Assam Rifles Training Centre & School were adjudged the best speaker in Hindi Debate For and Against the topic respectively. Whereas, Rifleman Biswajit Chanda of Headquarters 27 Sector Assam Rifles and Rifleman B W Mozhui of Headquarters 28 Sector Assam Rifles Sector were adjudged the best speaker in English Debate For and Against the topic respectively. The team of Assam Rifles Training Centre&School was adjudged the best team and headquarters 23 Sector team was declared the runners up. Assam Rifles team was also selected in this debate competition which will take part in the forthcoming “Central Police Organisation’s North East Zone Debate Competition-2014” scheduled to be held at ARTC & S, Dimapur on July 26.
Addressing the participants and the enthusiastic gathering Brigadier K Narayanan, Commandant Assam Rifles Training Centre & School highlighted the importance of adhering the Human Right norms while dealing with the public and exhorted all ranks to strictly observe the Human Rights and law of the land while combating terrorism. He also gave away prizes to the participants and presented trophies to the winner and runners up teams.
