Seyochung Area Students' Union has issued a three-month ultimatum to the Works & Housing department and the executing agency to complete the delayed PMGSY-III road project connecting Seyochung Town and nearby villages.
DIMAPUR — The Seyochung Area Students' Union (SASU) has served a three-month ultimatum on the Works & Housing department and the executing agency, demanding completion of the long-delayed PMGSY-III road project connecting Seyochung town via New Monger, Old Monger and Seyochung village.
The ultimatum, addressed to the Commissioner & Secretary of the Works & Housing department, was issued over the prolonged delay in the execution of the project, which the union said has caused immense hardship to the people of the Seyochung Area for several years.
In a representation, SASU said the poor condition of the road and the slow pace of construction have severely disrupted the daily lives of residents.
It alleged that repeated landslides and road blockages have frequently cut off the area, while the contractor failed to deploy machinery or workers to clear the debris and restore connectivity.
The union said the situation has adversely affected students, who have struggled to attend schools, and patients requiring emergency medical care, while the public continues to face difficulties due to the absence of a safe and fully motorable road.

Highlighting what it described as a recent example of negligence, SASU said a dumper truck carrying construction materials for the Old Monger Baptist Church remained stranded at Seyochung village for five days after a landslide blocked the road.
Despite repeated requests by villagers to the contractor and the site in-charge to clear the blockage, no action was taken, it claimed.
According to the union, villagers, led by the village council, eventually cleared the road themselves after waiting nearly a week for the authorities to respond, restoring connectivity to the area.
Describing the incident as a reflection of administrative indifference, SASU expressed concern over the continued delay in completing what it termed a critical infrastructure project for the socio-economic development of the region.
The union has demanded that the department and the executing agency complete the PMGSY-III road project and make the entire stretch fully motorable within three months from the date of receipt of the ultimatum.
It cautioned that failure to meet the deadline would leave the union with no option but to launch democratic agitation to safeguard the interests of the people.
SASU said any consequences arising from such action would be the responsibility of the concerned authorities and the executing agency for their continued delay and negligence.
The union also appealed to the Nagaland government to intervene and ensure the timely completion of the project, stating that the road is a lifeline for thousands of residents of the Seyochung Area and is vital for education, healthcare, transportation and overall development.
