The first sewage treatment plant of Nagaland in Shozukhu village under Dimapur district, which was inaugurated on January 14, was designed to prevent and control pollution of Diphu and Dhansiri rivers.

It was stated that the sewage collected from wet well would be pumped into the common collection chamber from where it would flow to the sewage treatment plant by gravity. The length of the gravity sewer line is 6 km.
Report stated that the effluent coming out of the maturation pond is within the permissible standard for inland surface water as laid by The Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986 schedule-VI. It stated that the scope of discharging the treated waste water (TWW) into the river was reviewed as per the directive of National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Accordingly, it stated that the treated waste water was proposed to be made available for irrigating the agricultural farms lying within the vicinity of the STP, sprinkling the road construction sites to control dust pollution, flushing and cleaning of the sewage drains and fire hydrants.
