Dimapur, Jan. 4 (EMN): The Food Corporation of India (FCI) had constructed godowns of capacity 47,530 MT in the north-eastern states, including Nagaland and 18,340 MT in other states during the last five years.
This was stated by Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ashwini Kumar Choubey in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
The house was informed that the facilities were in the Northeast under Central Sector Scheme “Storage and Godowns” (focus on NE) between 2017 and 2022, and all these godowns are functional.
According to the ministry’s update, a godown of Capacity 4590 MT had been constructed in Kohima during the financial year 2017-18; capacity 17100 MT facilities constructed in several districts of Manipur in FY 2018-19 and capacity 2500 MT in FY 2019-20; capacity 3340 MT in Arunachal Pradesh in FY 2017-18; and capacity 20000 MT godown in Assam in FY 2021-22.
The Union Minister also informed that states and Union Territories had cancelled 4.28 crore bogus ration cards between 2014 and 2021 during the periodical review to weed out potentially ineligible, duplicate or bogus ration cards after proper verification.
According to the update, 1,70,75,301 bogus ration cards were cancelled in Uttar Pradesh, 41,65,552 in Maharashtra, 41,09,873 in West Bengal, 23,53,760 in Madhya Pradesh, 22,66,485 in Rajasthan and 21,54,193 in Karnataka.
