IMPHAL — The seventh session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly (MLA), which was adjourned sine die on Thursday, will be resumed on March 9.
According to the assembly bulletin issued on Thursday by its secretary, Rohit Sapam, the assembly session will start at 11 am on March 9.
For the upcoming session, the Business Advisory Committee meeting with the MLA Speaker, Thokchom Satyabrata, is expected to be held on Friday at around 4 pm.
The seventh session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly was held on February 5 at 4 pm with the Governor’s address, a day after BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as the 13th chief minister of the state.

Along with Khemchand, BJP legislator from the Kuki community Nemcha Kipgen and Naga People’s Front legislator Losii Dikho were sworn in as deputy chief ministers, while BJP legislator Govindas Konthoujam and National People’s Party legislator K Loken, both Meiteis, also took oath as cabinet ministers during the swearing-in ceremony on February 4 after President’s Rule was revoked in Manipur.
Interestingly, a month after taking oath, Khemchand assigned key departments to ministers only on March 4. Khemchand will also oversee any department that has not been specifically allocated to other ministers. According to the notification, portfolios of eight different departments were allocated among five members of the council of ministers.
Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho were assigned two departments each. Kipgen has been allotted the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Tribal Affairs and Hills portfolio, while Dikho was given charge of Public Health Engineering and Forests, Environment and Climate Change.
Meanwhile, Konthoujam Govindas Singh, who represents Bishnupur Constituency, will handle the Home and Youth Affairs and Sports departments, while his colleague, Khuraijam Loken Singh of Wangoi constituency, has been entrusted with Arts and Culture and Tourism.
It may be mentioned that former chief minister, N Biren Singh tendered his resignation on February 9, 2024. Following his resignation, President’s Rule was imposed in the state on February 13.
