Dimapur, Nov. 1 (EMN): ‘Tech Aura 2017,’ an annual technical fest organised by School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Nagaland University, on the theme “Igniting visionaries” got underway on November 1 in the college premises. The event is being organised to promote technical consciousness in the mind of young generations.
The four -day Tech Aura event aims at providing platform for students to showcase their talent in technical and to spread an atmosphere of technological presence to the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Director of Life Sports and chief guest, Colo Mero has termed SET as a mini northeast model. He said the students are privileged to be part of the institution in sharing dreams of the society.
“Gone are the days where you have an education degree and a job is available for you. Nagaland is over employed where everyone is looking for a government job. The present situation is for ‘survival of the fittest’ where skill education with vocational proficiency is the need of the hour,” asserted Mero.
He stated that in Nagaland people consider government job as the only career. He, however, exhorted the students that the future belong to the bold entrepreneurs and tech savvy, while those educated unemployed Nagas belong to the ‘unemployable group’ who only consider government job to be calling.
“Education should be for employment and every education can provide employment outside government job,” remarked the chief guest.
Labelling SET as a mini northeast, Mero rued over the state of affairs of north eastern states and remarked that northeast is too small to be fighting among ourselves. The least, he said, we can do as northeast community is to live in peace and united in spite of our diversity.
SET-NU Dean Prof. SK Sharma remarked that Tech Aura is an event for students to showcase their talent and think out of the box. “It is in this potential and ideas that the college aims to tap and present to the society through the various technical competitions, presentations, exhibitions, and seminars. From battle of the bands, cultural shows, dance and music, Tech Aura is a celebration of life, culture and technology,” conveyed the Dean.
