Service providers, police asked to check violation of SMS use

Dimapur, Feb. 2 (EMN): The establishment of the district election officer of Longleng has informed mobile service providers and the police authority in the district to check objectionable SMS which violate the provision of election law, Model Code of Conduct and the Election Commission’s directives. The order has been issued in connection with certain objectionable message on Short Message Service (SMS) transmitted by some vested interest during elections, violating the provisions of election law and Model Code of Conduct, vitiating the atmosphere of free, fair and peaceful elections process. The service providers and police are also asked to take appropriate action under the relevant provision of IPC, Representation of People Act 1951, the Conduct of Election Rules 1961 and any other law applicable in the case.
