
Dimapur, Dec. 16 (EMN): Commissioner and secretary of Sericulture, Orenpomo Kikon, has launched a castor oil processing and demonstration unit at its directorate, Kohima.
In his address, Kikon stated although elders have spoken about the goodness of castor oil, most people are only aware of its hair and skin benefits, an updated from the Sericulture department stated on Wednesday. He stated that castor oil is known for its anti-bacterial, medicinal and therapeutic properties. He added that the by-product castor flake/ cake is a good organic fertiliser stating that a 100 kg of castor cake can supply as much nitrogen (N) as 1200 kg of cow dung.
Besides, he stated that castor cake has insecticidal properties and is naturally pest repellent which makes it a good option for organic farming.
Also speaking at the launching programme, the deputy director of Sericulture Alemkumzuk stated that heavy investment is not required to setup such a unit. He has asked interested entrepreneurs who are willing to take up such venture to contact him during office hour.
It mentioned that the innovative idea for the processing-cum- demonstration unit could be made into reality through the effort and initiative of its deputy director Alemkumzuk.
