DIMAPUR — Sergio Gor assumed charge as the United States Ambassador to India at the United States Embassy in New Delhi on January 12. Upon his arrival, Gor announced that India will be invited to join the ‘Pax Silica’ initiative as a full member next month.
In a statement, Gor described Pax Silica as a "U.S.-led strategic initiative to build a secure, prosperous, and innovation-driven silicon supply chain from critical minerals and energy inputs to advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, AI development, and logistics."
He noted that nations that joined last month include Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Israel. "As the world adopts new technology, it is essential that India and the United States work hand-in-hand from the very start of this initiative," he stated.
Regarding the ongoing trade deal negotiations, the ambassador informed that both sides continue to actively engage. He cited Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who stated that "this year will be a year of reciprocity," which implies fair trade, mutual respect, and shared security.

Gor highlighted the relationship between the leaders of the two nations, stating that he was with President Donald Trump last week. "He recounted his incredible experience visiting India, and also his great friendship with the great Prime Minister of India, Prime Minister Modi," Gor said, adding that he hopes the President will be visiting India soon, "hopefully in the next year or two."
The ambassador shared updates on Trump’s activities in the US, noting that the President is renovating Washington, DC. "The president has embarked on building a ballroom at the White House, but one of the additional projects that’s on his list is building something similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris," he said, comparing the vision to the India Gate.
Reflecting on his professional background, Gor mentioned that when President Trump was elected in 2024, he was asked to be the Director of the Office of Presidential Personnel, where they filled over 95 percent of positions in the first year.
Recalling his first visit to India in 2013, Gor mentioned visiting the Taj Mahal, Jaipur, Ranthambore, and Punjab. He concluded by emphasising that "no partner is more essential than India" and expressed his goal to pursue an ambitious agenda as true strategic partners.
