Dimapur, September 14
The Dimapur Longsa Youth Forum (DLYF) on Sunday released the sequence of events leading to the alleged murder of a Class XI student of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Bhandari on September 11. Her body was recovered a day later by the bank of a stream between Merapani and Bhandari. The victim Gloria Ezung was a daughter of Khonsao Ezung of Longsa village residing at Merapani, Wokha.
In a statement, the Youth Forum recalled, “On the fateful day of September 11, the deceased along with her younger sister and some friends left home at 7.30 am for school, which is located about 3.5 km away. 1 km into the walk to school from the house, Gloria received an SMS text from her classmate, informing her to attend school early since it was an examination day.”
On receipt of the text, Gloria reportedly handed her school bag to her sister with instructions that she should go ahead so that she would not get late.
When Gloria returned home to change her school uniform, her youngest sister was at home and confirmed Gloria returned to change.
The statement went on to say that, she did not reach the school and mysteriously disappeared. Even her cell phone was found switched off.
While narrating the incident, the sister who had gone ahead to school reported that when she was 2 km away from home she noticed a truck with a breakdown and three men were working on it.
The place from where Gloria’s body was recovered was reportedly 1 km from the site where the truck had a breakdown.
The Youth Forum also said that the friend who had sent an SMS message to the victim reportedly reached the examination hall late.
Interestingly, it was also reported by the parents of the deceased that two elderly women from the locality who went to collect bamboo shoot from the forest at around 9.00 am saw traces of something being dragged and some foot prints where the body was found later by the search team.
Later on, the husband of one of the women revealed to the father of the deceased that they saw something odd kind of baggage at that spot but was afraid of revealing the fact. Only the next evening when the news went viral about the missing of the deceased, they disclosed it to the search team. And as per their statement, the search team went to that spot and found the body half covered with sand at around 4.00 pm on September 12.
The DLYF mentioned that in July 2006, one Thechamo Ezung son of Lt. Elhimomo Ezung was also brutally murdered in the same area.
Meanwhile, as demanded earlier, the forum urged the Government of Nagaland to immediately set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder of an innocent young school-going girl so that justice is delivered. They also urged the district administration, and investigating authority to speed up the investigation process without further delay.
The forum expressed surprise over the delay of the post mortem report which is yet to be finalized. The president and publicity of the DLYF cautioned the medical team not to distort the findings on the post mortem and asked the authority to bring out the report by the first hour, Monday.
