IMPHAL — A one-day sensitisation programme on
‘Sexual harassment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and
Redressal) Act, 2013’ was held at the farmer’s training hall of Directorate of
Agriculture, Sanjenthong, Imphal, on Monday.
The programme was jointly organised by the Manipur State
Commission for Women (MSCW) and Directorate of Agriculture.
Addressing the event, chairperson of MSCW, Thumlip Tiningpham
Monsang, said that the sensitisation programme is very important for women in
order to be aware about sexual harassment of women at workplace, its
prevention, prohibition and redressal.
The chairperson said that empowering women is important
because women play a major role in society. Promoting education and healthy
lifestyle are also some ways to empower women at this juncture, she said.
Women contribute 50% in the income generation of the society
and therefore gender equality is also inevitable in the society, she added.
Monsang went on to emphasise that it is important for both
men and women to understand each other in sorting out any problem they face.
“It is quite fortunate this very department is not facing
any issues related with sexual harassment at workplace, and if there is any
such issues, then the complaint should be brought into the internal complaints
committee (ICC),” she said.
Educating and knowing women’s rights are a must for every
woman because they help to ensure equality and empowerment for all women.
The sensitisation program provided clarity on various
aspects, such as different forms of sexual harassment, procedures to handle
complaints etc.
“Understanding and addressing sexual harassment in the
workplace is crucial for creating a safe environment for women and girls.
“Let’s take the benefits of the programme; please spread
awareness to the public,” she appealed.
During the technical session, advocate Thiyam Rajkishore
Singh highlighted the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention,
Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
