- DIMAPUR — The fourth Sendenyu Chipwen Dzon
(Citizen Day) celebration, on the theme "Akazü atemi arünyin" (My
land, my people, my village), was held on Monday at Thonsünyu village in
Noklak.
- According to an update, this quinquennial event, organised
by the Sendenyu Chipwen Union (SCU), brought together citizens from across
Sendenyu, both from the native land and diaspora communities in Kohima,
Dimapur, Tseminyu, and beyond.
- The programme was attended by Sochilo Semp, 1st class
contractor and proprietor of Ms. Semp & Co, Kohima, as chief host, and
Gwasinlo Thong, chairman of the Sendenyu Community Biodiversity & Wildlife
Conservation Board, as theme speaker.
- Speaking on the occasion, Semp, reflecting on his personal
journey of hard work and entrepreneurship, emphasised the importance of seeking
God's guidance, pursuing good deeds, and fostering strong community bonds. He
encouraged the younger generation to take leadership roles, pursue excellence,
and contribute to the growth of the community.
- Thong, in his speech, spoke about the land’s rich
biodiversity and urged the community to be responsible stewards of the land,
emphasising that the resources of Sendenyu are meant to be preserved for future
generations. He reflected on the wisdom of the elders, the rich history of
Sendenyu, and the importance of co-existence and unity for the collective good.
- Earlier, Njilo Kemp, president of SCU, in his welcome
address, expressed gratitude to all present and reflected on the union’s
journey since its formation in 2008. He acknowledged the challenges faced by
the community, as well as the union’s continued efforts to promote its
historical and cultural heritage, protect the geographical area, and foster
socio-economic development.
- The event also saw the installation of new office bearers,
as well as the presentation of the SCU Award of Governor PB Acharya for
Excellence in Entrepreneurship to Gwakentsin Kent of New Sendenyu for his
outstanding contribution to the local agricultural industry through the
production of Raja Sürasha (King Chilly).
- SCU also adopted several resolutions aimed at strengthening
the community’s future.
