Imphal, Jan. 20: Senapati and Imphal continue to reel from low temperatures since the past few days compared to other places in Manipur, according to the Environment department’s weather reports.
Senapati, a hill town located about 60 km north of Imphal along the blockade-hit Imphal-Mao sector of National Highway 2, recorded below 2 degree Celsius in the morning (5-8am) since the past one week. It drops down from 5 degree Celsius (midnight) to 1.15 degree Celsius (7 in the morning) whereas the rest of the state recoded around 4-6 degree Celsius as minimum temperature, reports said.
“Interesting observation is the raising of the minimum temperature, about 11 degree Celsius within 7 hours i.e from 1.15 degree Celsius (7 in the morning) to 22.79 degree Celsius (2 in the afternoon),” says a weather observer from the directorate of Environment.
On Friday, the hill town recorded a minimum temperature of 2.7 degree Celsius and maximum of 24.9 degree Celsius.
In view of the prediction of cold wave in the ‘coming week’, the Manipur State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) has issued an advisory of Do’s and Don’ts to the public to avoid cold wave related adverse impacts.
Manipur is enduring one of its coldest seasons ever in the recent times. The MSDMA advisory had asked the public to remain indoors.
