Imphal, Jan. 12:Besides having the lowest electorate-to-population ratio among the then nine districts, Manipur’s then-Senapati district has the lowest gender ratio, according to the latest electoral roll for the 60 assembly constituencies of Manipur which was released here on Thursday.
The electoral roll also shows that Imphal west district has highest gender ratio at 1075 female voters for every 1000 male voters while Senapati has the lowest (991 female voters for every 1000 male voters).
Similarly in the district-wise electorate-to-population ratio, Imphal east district has the highest (66%) while Senapati (39%) the lowest. Otherwise, Senapati district has the highest number of voters among all the five hill districts. Senapati has 2,59,294 voters while Chandel has the least number of voters(91,994).
The total number of voters in Imphal East district is 3,24,491, Imphal West 3,53,705, Bishnupur 1,68,003, Thoubal 2,96,884, Ukhrul 1,12,065, Tamenglong 93,469 and Churachandpur 1,93,838 respectively.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur Vivek Kumar Dewangan released the much-awaited final electoral rolls during a press conference at Old Secretariat conference hall here this morning.
Interestingly female voters also outnumbered the male voters in the state as in 2012 assembly polls. Thus the new electoral roll shows the number of women have increased to 1,046 per 1,000 male voters.
The highest number of voters are in the age group of 20-29 with 5, 04, 502 electors constituting 15.27% of the total voters. Geographically, Phungyar in Ukhrul district is the largest assembly constituency (38.9 sq km) while the smallest is Singjamei and Keisamthong Assemly Constituency (2 sq km).
The CEO also announced nine recognized political parties functioning in the state. They are All India Trinamool Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party, Bharatiya Janata party, Communist party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, Nationalist Congress party, Naga Peoples Front and People’s Democratic Alliance. He reiterated that voters can also watch the live streaming of polling (using 3G connectivity) at more than 1000 polling stations out of total polling stations. For the first time in the history of Manipur election, electronic postal ballot system will be introduced to 11,915 outstation service voters.
Similarly the March election will also have photographs of candidates in EVMs for the first time, he added. Voters Assistance Booths (VAB) will be set up for every polling station to facilitate the voter to locate their polling booth number and serial number in the electoral roll of that concerned polling booth.
The commission has also directed that official voter slips bearing the photo of the elector will be distributed to all enrolled voters by the district election officer. The voter slip will be in local dialects.
