Niuland district administration conducts seminars for village functionaries.

DIMAPUR — The Niuland district administration under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Sara S Jamir, conducted seminars for village functionaries in all the sub-divisions and EAC circles covering all the villages in the district.
According to a press release from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Niuland, the seminars aimed to strengthen good governance and local self-government at the grassroots level in villages.
The seminar was held at Aghunaqa EAC Hq. on October 23and at Nihokhu EAC Hq. on October 24, covering a total of 47 villages.
The seminar, attended by head GBs, GBs, village council chairmen, and VDB secretaries, covered key topics including The Village and Area Council Act 1978, Rules for Administration of justice and Police in Nagaland Act, 1937, roles, functions and appointment of GB, VDB model rules, customary village court, and policing at village level.

Matters pertaining to issue of ST, IIC, PRC and ILP in the district were shared and discussed with the village leaders.
The objective of the seminar was to make aware of the acts and rules that empower the village chief and the village council and entrust it with different powers and functions to enable it as the auxiliary of the district administration at the grass root level.
They were also made aware of the limitations of the power of the village council and to function within the ambit of law that empowers it.
The resource persons were pooled from district administration, police and BDO offices.
Vitoka Yepthomi, EAC Niuland, and M Khenpa, EAC Aghunaqa, organised the seminars in their respective jurisdictions.
